Reclaiming the Struggle | Reclaiming the Space | Reclaiming the Narrative

Voices of Palestine is a national campaign which aims to amplify the voices of Palestinians in the UK. We seek to recentre Palestinians at the heart of their struggle for liberation, giving a platform to Palestinians to champion their own story, articulate their own discourse and reclaim the narrative.

“Solidarity activists play a monumental role in keeping the Palestinian struggle alive in the UK, but sometimes it is hard to hear the Palestinian voice among all the noise”

It’s time for Palestinian voices to be heard loud and clear. The Palestinian struggle is exactly that, the struggle for the rights of Palestinians by Palestinians. For too long the narrative has been allowed to be set by the ethnic cleansers, the colonisers, the apartheid state and its supporters, dehumanising Palestinians along the way and misrepresenting their legitimate demands for justice. It’s time for Palestinians to reclaim their struggle, reclaim their space and reclaim the narrative.

Solidarity activists play a monumental role in keeping the Palestinian struggle alive in the UK, but sometimes it is hard to hear the Palestinian voice among all the noise. By opening up a space to recentre the Palestinian voice at the heart of the cause in the UK, Palestinians may lead from the front in their struggle for liberation, empowering all of us who support their struggle for justice along the way.

There is nothing more eloquent than the stories of suffering and oppression as told by the victims, and nothing more powerful than the stories of resistance and struggle as told by the survivors. Through Voices of Palestine we will amplify these stories for all to hear, making them readily available and easily accessible.Β  Stories of suffering and survival can disarm those who seek to stand in the way of justice, reversing the relentless dehumanisation Palestinians so often endure by ruling elites and at the hands of the media.

“An enemy is a person whose story you have not heard”

It is often said β€˜an enemy is a person whose story you have not heard’ and we want to test this hypothesis by championing Palestinian stories and perspectives until they are widespread and legitimised. It is our mission to make these stories heard. We know that all true friends of justice, liberty and equality will be friends of the Palestinian struggle too if only they heard the Palestinian voice, for that is the essence of the Palestinian struggle.

By giving a platform to Palestinians both on and offline through a series of events, videos and written publications we will amplify the voices of Palestinians in the UK.

In the words of Ramzy Baroud: β€˜To be pro-Palestine is also to respect the centrality of the Palestinian voice, because without the Palestinian narrative there can be no real or meaningful solidarity, and also because, ultimately it will be the Palestinian people who will liberate themselves.’

Voices Of Palestine Events

We kicked off the campaign in March 2020 with a speaking tour of Laila Hasan from Hebron. She was joined at several of the events with Ahmed Alnaouq and Hala Shoman from Gaza, among other speakers.

You can read an account of the tour on our blog here.
